We discussed with our surgeon what to do next and considered another joint replacement surgery. It worked well, but the older cadaver bone used for the 90’s fusion that was under the joint started to collapse and it caused a lot of pain and discomfort. So through research and the wise guidance of my surgeon, we pursued a total ankle joint replacement in November of 2019 with an extraordinary surgeon in Glenview, Illinois, who specialized in that particular kind of surgery and engineered the joint replacement. In 2019 I started feeling some pain in the ankle so I went back to my Indianapolis-based orthopedic surgeon who fused the ankle and found I needed another fix. Three rebuilds and an eventual ankle fusion lasted for 25 years. My story started years ago, in the early 90’s, when I fell off a ladder cleaning the house gutters and shattered my left ankle.
